The Girl, a new fragrance by Tommy Hilfiger starring Gigi Hadid

Supermodel, social media star and TH ambassador Gigi Hadid is the face of The Girl, a new fragrance by Tommy Hilfiger. Here, she sits down to discuss all things beauty and offers an exclusive BTS look from the photo shoot.

What do you love about The Girl by Tommy Hilfiger?

It’s clean and fresh. I like a scent that doesn’t overwhelm and The Girl is a really fun and flirty fragrance that’s versatile enough for the day or night.

Tell us about it.

There are ten notes total, but the most prominent ones are violet leaf, green pear and green fig leaves with touches of jasmine and cedar wood.

How does it make you feel?

It makes me feel the same way it smells, lively and fun. Plus, it’s a great finishing touch right before you walk out the door.

Describe your beauty routine.

I'm pretty easygoing when I have days off. My hair is usually in a ponytail. For makeup, I stick to bronzer, mascara, a spritz of fragrance and I’m out the door. I like a simple routine.

Any tips you’ve learned?

Less is more. There are times to do a statement look, but mostly keep it natural.

Any products you can’t live without?

Nude lipstick. It’s a great basic that goes with every outfit and look.

After a long night, how do you wake-up looking fresh?

I try to sleep as much as possible but if I don’t, coffee helps. On set, being around people that I love working with helps to give me a lot of energy.

Most women have bad hair days. Any tricks you can share?

Put it in a bun!

What’s your wellness mantra?

Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane.

How do you prepare physically and mentally for a shoot or a runway show?

I box year-round; it’s how I keep my body in shape and it’s a great way for me to not think about anything for an hour. It allows me to work things out without even realizing it.

For this shoot specifically, I love the Tommy family and I've been working on my TOMMYXGIGI capsule collection (that launches in September), so to be the face of the fragrance is really exciting.

What has been the most memorable part of working on the campaign so far?

The mood of the shoot was fun yet sexy. We created a nautical scene using huge ropes that brought an element of exaggeration. The set design was definitely very memorable.

Modeling is very competitive. What’s the key to surviving?

It’s really important to be someone that people like to work with. No one wants to spend the day with someone difficult. I think what means the most, more than when the team says, “I love that image!” is when they say, “I talked to the hair stylist from the shoot and they said how kind you were.” That’s what makes me feel good about the day.

Social media has become a significant part of being a model in today’s world. Was that a consideration for you when you first started out?

I was born in a generation in which it’s part of our everyday lives so it feels very natural and certainly it’s helped to push my career.

Do you have any fashion obsessions?

It changes a lot, but I'm liking chokers a lot right now.

What’s one thing that people probably don’t know about you?

When I was eleven, I sang back-up vocals on a Josh Groban Christmas album.

What does the phrase all-American girl mean to you?

People like to be around her – she’s easy to talk to and fun to hang out with.

What makes a woman beautiful?

To me, women are beautiful when they are confident, warm and welcoming.

What do you admire most about Tommy?

He makes you feel like family the second you meet him.

How does it feel to be one of the iconic Tommy Hilfiger girls?

It feels great! I've loved the brand my whole life and the feeling you’ll get when you look at the campaign for The Girl is the same feeling we had when we were shooting it, playful and spirited, so that’s really exciting.
